Our Mission and Ministries

The Worship Committee has as its focus the spiritual development of the community through liturgical celebrations that shape and express the faith life of our community.

Our worship ministries call forth active participation by all members, so that the liturgies we celebrate become the source from which we receive the Spirit of the risen Jesus to live our Christian mission in the world, and the summit to which we bring all our hopes and fears as we return from the daily encounter with our individual Christian ministries.

Current Cochairs of the Worship Committee: Maureen Kelly and Kyran (Hub) Daugherty

Acolytes
The acolyte prepares the worship setting and assists the Presider during liturgies. Assignment is for one liturgy six to ten times a year. Training workshop meetings are held once or twice a year. Individual assistance is given prior to serving in this ministry. Contact Jim Parr, through the parish office at 502-245-9733.

Art and environment
These ministers design, create, and arrange art and floral pieces to enhance our liturgical celebrations. One may volunteer to help for a particular season (e.g. Advent, Easter, etc.). This ministry also includes the design of vestments and decorative candle arrangements. Specific talents in sewing, banner making, or wall hangings, as well as interior design skills are valued. Flexible hours - much work can be done at home. Arranging materials in the Worship Center is mostly done on Saturday mornings. Contact Margarete Klose or Pat Trimble, through the parish office at 502-245-9733.

Labyrinth Ministry and Schedule

Wedding Wall Hanging

Bell Choir
Our Handbell Choir practices weekly on Friday afternoons at 3:30, and adds their festive sound to our weekend liturgies. Music reading (or the willingness to learn) is required. Contact Linda Thieneman, through the parish office at 502-245-9733.

Bread making
Bread used at our weekend liturgies is baked fresh for each liturgy from a standard recipe. This ministry requires bread to be provided for one liturgy two to three times per year. If possible, the baker (and family) will bring the bread up to the Presider during that liturgy. Contact Gail Vogel, through the parish office at 502-245-9733.

Choir
A multi-voiced choir provides a variety of musical styles for liturgical celebrations from September through May. Joint choir programs with neighboring churches is also provided. A part-time choir director coordinates these efforts. Rehearsals are held once a week during the choir's season. Contact Gina Eberenz or Linda Thieneman, through the parish office at 502-245-9733.

Cup and plate
This ministry entails the distribution of the Eucharistic bread and wine to members of the community during the communion rite. Ministers sign up for one of twelve stations upon entering the Worship Center for liturgy. No special pre-assignments are made; however, a single coordinator for this ministry is assigned for each liturgy. Training workshops are held once or twice per year. Thirty-nine ministers are needed each weekend. See New Eucharistic Minister Guidelines. Contact Tom Hayes, through the parish office at 502-245-9733 or e-mail at TomHayesMP@cs.com.

Drama/mime
These people provide a mime or dramatic interpretation of a Scripture reading or reflection for community liturgies, as requested by the liturgy planners. Contact Linda Thieneman, 502-245-9733, ext. 15.

Hospitality
These ministers greet and welcome the community before liturgies and provide for the distribution of Participation Sheets to those coming for worship. They also assist with seating, coordinating the collection, and distribute the community bulletin at the end of liturgies. This is an ideal "family" ministry with young and old being able to participate. Assignments are for one specific liturgy for one month at a time. Rotation requires about three assignment periods per year. Contact Wayne and Maureen Fitzgerald, through the parish office at 502-245-9733.

Labyrinth
This ministry supports this very old tradition of walking meditation. The turf labyrinth behind Epiphany House is maintained during the growing season. The canvas labyrinth is set up in the community center monthly as well as for special occasions, with various materials to support people's prayer (music, candles, etc.) Volunteers are needed to cut the outdoor labyrinth and host the indoor labyrinth prayer times. Labyrinth schedule. Contact Contact Jean Panther or Janet Will, through the parish office at 502-245-9733.

Lectors
This minister proclaims the Scripture readings, the Call to Worship, the Prayers of Petition, and reads the Announcements. Two persons are needed to provide this service at each weekend liturgy. Special evaluation and training is required prior to assignment to this ministry. Rotation schedules provided for two to four liturgies a year. Some special celebrations may require additional practice before the liturgy. Contact Chuck Sgro, through the parish office at 502-245-9733.

Lighting
Our worship space is changed about six times a year. This requires special arrangement of our overhead lights as well as special focal lighting on occasion. This work is generally done on Saturday mornings as needed. Contact Tom Hayes, through the parish office at 502-245-9733.

Linens and vestments
This ministry is little seen but most necessary in that it provides laundry for all linen towels used each week and the cleaning of the white garments (albs) worn by presiders. A rotation schedule is provided. Contact Kyran (Hub) Daugherty, 502-245-7165.

Liturgical Dance
Interpretive dance is provided for various liturgies throughout the year. Choreography is designed to accompany readings or musical selections for major feasts and celebrations (about twelve times a year). Rehearsals are required. Contact Therese Graves, 502-944-9197.

Liturgy Planning
Our community celebrates about 75 large-scale liturgies a year and each one needs to have a detailed, written plan for the celebration which provides for all aspects of the celebration, from text for the Call to Worship, to musical selections, to art work, dance and floor plan. All community members are invited to join in seasonal planning for Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter. Volunteers are also invited to prepare for the liturgies of Ordinary Time. Experienced planners are available to work with those new to liturgy planning. The plans are completed for distribution to ministers who will carry them out in our worshipping community. Most volunteers plan two to six liturgies a year. Contact Gary Marvin or Linda Thieneman, through the parish office at 502-245-9733.

Music Ministry
People with musical talent, vocal or instrumental, are invited to share in this ministry. Musicians are divided into ensemble teams of cantors and instrumentalists. A rotation schedule is used to ensure that there is music for all our major liturgies. Monthly general rehearsals as well as ensemble rehearsals are required. Most members provide music for three celebrations a month. Contact Linda Thieneman, 502-245-9733, ext. 15.

Participation Sheets
These sheets are printed for each major celebration and contain music and text for the assembly. Art work embellishes the design. Volunteers are needed at the Parish Office to type and run off this important worship aid. Contact Clis Podshadley or Lynne Webb, through the parish office at 502-245-9733.

Prayer Circle
Experience indicates that committing to a specific, regular practice of prayer over time yields a significant deepening that sustains ongoing transformation. Committing to the Prayer Circle community and process is one way this deepening can occur. It offers a particular prayer form – presentation of a focus for our individual/communal prayer, an extended sitting meditation in silence, quiet personal reflection, and sharing of our experience. If you are interested in this process, you will need to make a commitment to your own prayer and to being with the group for a retreat (March2–4, 2007) and nine Wednesday evening sessions during the fall or winter sessions. If you would like more information, please contact Linda Thieneman at Epiphany’s office, 245-9733.

Space Angels and Space Arrangers
Regular volunteers are needed for this ministry on Saturday mornings to prepare the worship space and gathering area for our weekend liturgies. About six times a year the entire floor arrangement is changed for the various liturgical seasons. Special effort is made at Easter time for the building of the Easter Garden. Contact Arlon Podshadley, through the parish office at 502-245-9733.

Wedding Assistants
Preparing for a wedding can be a very demanding time for the bride and groom. Volunteers in this ministry help facilitate some of the many choices that must be made as well as function as a personal liaison with the couple to ensure a faith-filled celebration will be provided for them. Most people are assigned to help with two or three weddings a year. Contact Bobbe Moutray, at the parish office at 502-245-9733.

Wine Making
Community members make the wine that we use for our Eucharistic liturgies early in the fall of each year and make sure an adequate supply is available in the Worship Center each week. Contact Randy Portelli, through the parish office at 502-245-9733.
